Dietary Changes

A myPBCteam Member asked a question 💭

I’m looking to learn more about any dietary changes I can make to help. Also things to cut from my diet and things I might should add to it. Would love to hear about things your doctors have shared with you.

My hepatologist said no raw fish, low salt, and fortunately coffee is good for the liver. Healthy eating best, even though I’m not able to eat much at one time so the said more small meals and healthy snacks.

I have a dietitian. They put me on the Mediterranean diet. I’m not over weight but it has everything you need to eat healthy. Red meat is a no but once in awhile. It has to be cooked well. I started having symptoms a year ago. Extreme fatigue and weight loss. I went from 158 to 126. I am 5’7 in height. Unfortunately I have two autoimmune diseases PBC and overlap of autoimmune hepatitis. Nothing to do with alcohol or drugs. I believe the PBC is the culprit. My liver is stage 3 fibrosis. I am on lots of meds and lots of testing. Bloodwork every week. Waiting for a clinical trial. I go to Cleveland clinic. Good luck everyone. I have a lot of issues as well but that I believe comes from side effects from medication. Any questions fill free. Good luck all

Honestly I don't get the results from my doctor until 3/14. I read the b biopsy and came up with the PBC from there. I am hoping it is not PBC, To much makes sense though I had my 1st liver biopsy 18 years ago due to swinging liver labs. Seen two rheumatologists and they both said I had fibromyalgia. Didn't explain the labs though. PBC is mentioned in the biopsy this time and there are so many things that make since after reading the biopsy report. I already have the beginning of osteoporosis I've had problems with itching for years. The original biopsy got me diagnosed with Nash. Over the years I have had consistent swinging liver labs up down up down now it makes a little more sense. I am still hoping it is not PBC. If you're looking for good supplements check out shaklee vitamins. They are not cheap but over the years I've tried to go with other brands and always go back to shaklee.
