What Is A Fibro Scan? Twice A Year, My Gastroenteroligist Has Me Go For An Abdominal Ultra Scan. Are The Two Scans, The Same?

A myPBCteam Member asked a question 💭

As far as I know, I have PBC, Stage 3, a few years ago. He said I have not advanced, yet. I am nauseous, alot, and have abdominal swelling, with discomfort, almost daily. I am also anemic, and receiving Ferricet, iron infusions. Do others have the same symptoms? Thanks🙃

A fibro scan last about 15 min. It's like an ultrasound but your liver is vibrated with a brief painless jolt. I had one this week. No significant scaring. Phew!

I see my Gastro Dr., next week, for an EGD and some kind of tests, in my esophagus!? I have a large hiatal hernia, they are checking on. I want them to find an alternative to surgery. I am going to ask him, why he doesn't do a fibro scan, instead. I am learning lots, here. Thanks, for the responses. 💌

Hi Lynn. An abdominal Ultra scan is an ultrasound but a fibroscan although similar is more specific in its results in detecting levels of liver damage.
