Why Don't We Have More Public Awareness Of PBC? Why Aren't Women Screened For It More Often?

I showed elevated liver enzymes for 4 years while taking monthly lab draws for breast cancer treatment. Why don't Doctors at least screen for PBC for women? We have mammograms as part of routine screening, why don't we screen women for PBC when liver enzymes are elevated? I would think that earlier detection of liver issues would give better outcomes. Why is it found later rather than early in a disease that primarily strikes women? Is the screening a very expensive and complicated test? Why… read more

My ALP chronically high, over 200. When it spiked to over 500, I was referred to a gastroenterologist who ordered ANA and AMA testing. I don't know why 3 previous doctors didn't test further. I was referred for a CT scan and ultrasound by one over 10 years ago. Those showed gall stones and a hemangiona on my liver. Perhaps they thought that explained my ALP.

Isn't it strange how these things are found after getting "fresh eyes" by a new doctor.

You are so right ! I made a statement like that to some one else here. It should be screened. It was out of the blue for me ... I had no symptoms and I'm 64 I started taking urso but very slowly to introduce it to my body. I scared me but I'm okay and realize that some of you are not. Prayers for all of us .

I am new to this and find this all very interesting as my Mom had congestive heart failure, high blood pressure and many other symptoms that I now have and I am wondering if this is what she had, but never knew it, nor did the Drs. I am on Urso and was just wondering what else it out there to replace it if this does not continue to work for a person? Thanks for all of this info Has been very helpful for me to look into other issures
