How Do You Know If The Progression Is Advancing Or Slowing? Besides Another Liver Biopsy
My doctor recently ordered a “FibroScan” to check on the progression of my PBC. It showed “very little if any fibrosis” in my liver. I was diagnosed in 2010, I’ve been taking Urso since then. My liver enzymes are now in the normal range. My doctor believes a FibroScan gives more information than a biopsy because more area of the liver can be checked and it is noninvasive.
To determine if the progression of Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) is advancing or slowing without another liver biopsy, doctors can use:
- Liver function tests: Elevated liver enzymes, such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and bilirubin levels, can indicate liver function and disease progression
- Imaging studies: Show Full Answer
